         We present some ongoing research into the typology of word order from a quantitative perspective. We take as a starting point a number of Greenberg's universals mostly relating to NP-nternal word order and investigate their behaviour in the annotated treebanks of the Universal Dependencies project. We provide some descriptive statistics on the data, look at some proposed explanations in the literature for them and determine to what extent our data support these explanations.
